About Eurostar
Launched in 1994 and carrying thousands of passengers per day, Eurostar's high-speed trains run from London's St Pancras International station direct to the likes of Paris, Lille, Amsterdam and Marseille via the Channel Tunnel.
Connecting tickets onto the centre of hundreds of other European towns and cities can also be booked, usually with options in Business Premier, Standard Premier and Standard classes, or equivalent classes.
Ever innovative, Eurostar was also one of the first rail companies to introduce business-class lounges and a loyalty programme, offering more everyday advantages to travelling by train, not plane.
Why travel with Eurostar?
Compared to flying, Eurostar trips between cities are faster door-to-door, better for the environment - it claims to produce up to 80% less carbon dioxide emissions than planes - roomier on average and liable to deposit you in a much more central location.
There's also the bonus of doing without the faff of baggage reclaims and worrying about liquids during the check-in process, which shouldn't last longer than 30 minutes, and the generous allowance of two pieces of luggage plus a small piece of hand luggage.
Some routes, such as the London to Paris service, offer up to 18 services a day, too, so availability isn't an issue unless you really leave it to the last minute.
What is guaranteed is the glamour of train travel - epitomised by St Pancras International, its champagne bar and massive Meeting Place bronze sculpture - alongside the thrill of whizzing through the countryside at as much as 186 mph.

On all other services, they're included as one of your two pieces of luggage. |
Camping equipment* | You can take tents and other shelters as part of your luggage allowance, as long as they're packed in bags or cases under 85 cm long, as well as camping cutlery. |
*Please note: camping gas or butane cylinders and canisters cannot travel on trains according to SNCF/SNCB regulations.
Eurostar seating options
Standard class customers are guaranteed lots of legroom and far comfier seats than on a aircraft.
Window, aisle and table seats are available, both back and forward-facing - request these upon booking for no extra charge - and there are designated coaches if baby-changing, family-sized tables, quietude, additional luggage space or power sockets at your seat are important.
Buffet car Café Métropole, sells meals, snacks and drinks, and customers can purchase 2-for-1 entries to top galleries and museums in Paris, Brussels or Lille.
Standard Premier, meanwhile, promises extra space, complimentary magazines to peruse and a complimentary snack or light meal served to your seat and plug socket.
In Business Premier, not only does Raymond Blanc oversee those meals but customers are offered free cancellations or exchanges, speedy boarding and lounge access. It's the good life, in other words.

Popular Eurostar destinations
Paris, France
- Station: Paris Gare du Nord
- Journey time from London St Pancras: 2 hours 30 minutes
One of the original two routes to connect the UK with the continent, Eurostar's London to Paris line remains as popular as ever for both business travellers and city breakers.
As well as savouring the delights of the French capital, from show stoppers like the glittering Eiffel Tower to tasty treats including Ladurée's colourful macaroons and Gruyère cheese melted over a classic French onion soup, Eurostar directly links London with Disneyland Paris on the outskirts of the city, too.>

- Station: Brussels-Midi/Zuid (South)
- Journey time from London St Pancras: 1 hour 53 minutes
The Belgian capital may lure visitors with the promise of moules-frites and fine chocolate but there's far more to this city than its indulgent food. As the home of Tintin, of course, there's the Belgian Comic Strip Center while the UNESCO-stamped Grand-Place is where to find a coffee stop for some people watching.
What's more, a short hop on a connecting service will have you crisscrossing the pretty bridges of Bruges or admiring Antwerp's architecture through the ages in no time.

- Station: Amsterdam Centraal
- Journey time from London St Pancras: 3 hours 40 minutes
The delight was palpable when Eurostar launched its direct service to Amsterdam in 2018, as it made getting to the Dutch capital-of-cool a breeze.
Oozing culture and history - don't miss the impressive Maritime Museum or the mighty Rijksmuseum - it's also the place for a lazy canal boat ride, a pedal through Vondelpark and to enjoy a drink with a view from the top of A'DAM Lookout.
Please note: direct trains to London from Amsterdam are set to commence from April 2020 and from Rotterdam from May 2020.

Eurostar FAQs

Yes - unless you're travelling in Business Premier. It costs £30 for Standard passengers and £40 for Standard Premier passengers to change their ticket, plus any difference in fare. Should the new fare be less expensive, refunds aren't offered.
What is Eurostar's compensation policy in case of delays?
Compensation, in the form of Eurostar e-vouchers, is offered on trains that are delayed for 60 minutes or more, dependent on how long you were delayed.
Is there anything I can't take on board a Eurostar train?
Liquids of any volume are permitted, as are nail scissors. Prohibited items are mostly ammunition, weapons and so forth; the more likely ones to fall foul of are lighter fuel, 'excessive amounts of alcohol intended for consumption on the journey' and perishable items such as meat, fish and dairy products.
