A bit about Ryanair
Ryanair is well known as Ireland's leading low-cost carrier. It pitches itself firmly in the 'cheap flights' camp and proudly wears the 'no frills' badge while meeting the demands of a range of customers, from families and couples to groups and business travellers.
Ryanair was established in 1985 and, over the last 30 years, has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of Europe's biggest and busiest airlines.
From Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Paphos, Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, Ryanair works to connect people with all sorts of destinations including prime beach holiday spots and exciting cities. It operates a fleet of more than 300 Boeing 737 aircraft, which whiz more than 90 million passengers around Europe each year.
Why fly with Ryanair?
Ryanair's appeal is that it brings destinations across Europe, the Med, and North Africa within reach for less. Gone are the days when air travel was the preserve of the rich and famous: low-cost carriers such as Ryanair have opened the world up to everyone, making cities, beach resorts and everything in between increasingly more accessible.
And how does it achieve this? By boldly stating its frill-free approach to cheap flights, promising you a seat and a safe journey, while leaving any added extras, from checked luggage to inflight food, for you to purchase if necessary.
Add to this the numerous convenient departure points, both regional and major airports, and variety of destinations, and you've got a winning formula.
Flying with Ryanair
One of the great things about flying with Ryanair is the number of options it has when it comes to deciding where to fly from. With departure points from 16 major and regional UK airports, it has never been easier as you're certain to find a local airport that suits, from Edinburgh to Bournemouth.
You can fly to Europe and the Mediterranean from the following UK airports (routes vary according to departure point):
- England: Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, East Midlands, Exeter, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London (Gatwick, Luton, Stansted & Southend) Manchester, Newcastle & Newquay
- Northern Ireland: Belfast & Derry
- Scotland: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow & Glasgow Prestwick
- Wales: Cardiff
Group bookings
With so many cheap flights and great savings, many people looking to go on holiday with friends, be it a stag do, hen do or simply a group getaway, choose to fly low cost with Ryanair.
If you're flying with 20 or more people, contact Ryanair directly to arrange the best value way to book your flights together.
Ryanair's Quiet Flights
After listening to the feedback of frequent early morning and late night travellers, Ryanair has launched its quiet flights' service, which operate before 7am and after 10pm.
Generally speaking, these include fewer announcements and dimmed cabin lights to encourage passengers to sit, back, relax and catch up on any missed sleep.
Types of fares
As part of its remit to offer straightforward low-cost airfares, Ryanair's fare structure is pretty simple, letting you choose the right fare for your budget and circumstance.
Standard | Plus | Flexi Plus | Family Plus | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Priority | between £6 and £10 per flight | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Cabin bags | 1x small bag | 2x bags | 2x bags | 2x bags |

Priority & 2 cabin bags
Ryanair's Priority service is an optional bolt-on for those with a Standard fare, which gives you peace of mind that you will be able to keep your bags in the cabin with you, not to mention early access to the aircraft. Priority includes:
- priority boarding
- one small personal bag measuring 25cm x 40cm x 20cm
- one 10 kg bag measuring no more than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm
Priority can be added to your Standard fare anytime from when you book to 30 minutes prior to flying via the Ryanair app.
