Iran weather overview
Iran is a huge country whose vast central plains are surrounded by mountains. The plains experience extreme conditions in both the summer and winter. In the summer, searing hot, dry, almost desert-like conditions prevail while the winter months bring changeable weather which can vary from mild and muggy to icy cold, when the harsh Siberian winds sweep through.
The best place to be in the winter is along the coast of the Persian Gulf or on the shore of the Arabian Sea where conditions are milder. In the summer, however, temperatures here can soar as high as on the plains and are exacerbated by high humidity creating a risk of heatstroke for the unwary. The most temperate part of Iran is the small region of forest which borders the Caspian Coast. This receives the highest level of rainfall in the country. In the rest of Iran, winter and spring are the rainiest periods.
What to pack for Iran weather
Take light, loose clothing with head covers for the summer months, wrap up much more warmly in the winter and anticipate rain in the winter and spring. Women should respect the Islamic dress code.
