FCDO lifts travel restrictions on another 51 countries

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has eased its advice against all but essential travel with regards to Covid-19 for an additional 51 countries.

This follows the update by the FCDO for 33 countries on Wednesday 6 October and the removal of 47 countries from the red list, opening up many destinations for international travel. The latest update will occur in two parts:

From Friday 8 October the FCDO no longer advises against non-essential travel to the following countries:

Martinique
Palau
Tajikistan
Uzbekistan
Western Sahara

From Monday 11 October the FCDO no longer advises against non-essential travel to the following countries:

Georgia
Guyana
Indonesia

Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, said: "These updates make travel abroad easier - boosting trade, tourism and reuniting friends and families. I am delighted that the safe reopening of travel allows people to exercise personal responsibility and visit more destinations across the globe."

The update is the first major step towards normality with regards to travel since the pandemic began and ties in with the simplified rules for international travel that saw the replacement of the traffic light system with a single Red list earlier this week.

For travellers, this change should boost confidence, especially when it comes to sourcing suitable travel insurance. Many insurers use FCDO travel advice as a reference point in their policies, often excluding cover for 'essential travel only' destinations.

These changes greatly increase the options for travellers, giving peace of mind with the knowledge that they're covered (please do check the small print of any travel insurance policy before purchasing).

Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, said: "These rule tweaks will make travelling more straightforward, supporting businesses and families right across Britain, and allow more of us to see friends and loved ones with greater peace of mind."
