Travelling to Europe in 2021? Now's the time to prepare!

A new survey from <strong>Discover Ferries</strong> has revealed an alarming lack of preparedness among British travellers when it comes to the impact Brexit will have on their travels following the 31 December 2020 withdrawal date.

While a fifth of British travellers plan to escape to Europe in 2021 thanks to positivity surrounding news of vaccines and shorter quarantine times, as many as 94% of people surveyed were unaware of what will be required when travelling to Europe from next year. The significant changes that travellers need to consider include:

you will need at least six months validity on your passport when travelling to the EU (excluding Republic of Ireland)
if taking your pet, you'll need to visit the vet four months prior to the date of travel
if taking your car, you may need an International Driving Permit (IDP) and most likely a Green Card from your insurer to drive in the EU (including Republic of Ireland)

There's also some misinformation doing the rounds with 43% of respondents believing they need their passport to travel to the Republic of Ireland and more than a quarter of people thinking that they will need a visa to go to Europe which, in most cases, will not be necessary as entry for fewer than 90 days will be visa-free.
