North Korea weather overview
North Korea has a wide coastal plain in the west rising to mountains in the interior and north and its long border with Manchuria brings it ill winds from China and Siberia which exacerbate its already harsh winters. Snow falls heavily and temperatures are icy enough to freeze rivers for up to four months! July to August are the hottest, most humid and rainiest months. Rainfall is possible at any time of year but tends to tail off in the spring and autumn when temperatures are mild.
What to pack for North Korea weather
Take light clothing and a raincoat in the summer, fairly warm attire in the spring and autumn and Dr Zhivago-style gear to face the winter.
