Norway overview

Norway has permanent glaciers and snow fields in the interior and, although in the far north summer brings the midnight sun, winter days inflict permanent twilight. Further south, inland winters are still cold and snowy, if not as extreme.

Those who prefer more comfortable weather should stay on the west coast, which is warmed by the Gulf Stream and remains fairly mild in winter. The west coast is, however, very wet and prone to gales.

What to pack for Norway weather

Take very warm clothing if travelling north in the winter. In the summer months (June to September) much lighter clothing is fine in the southern lowlands but you should supplement this with warmer wraps for visiting the coast. Always have a raincoat at hand.
