Things to do in Tenerife in January 2025

In January, Tenerife is quick to get the party started. The first main event is La Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos. The Reyes Magos is the Spanish name for the 'Three Wise Men', and the 6th January (Epiphany) is when the country's children traditionally received their Christmas presents (they still get more on this day than on the 25th December).

This is a public holiday but the nocturnal parade the evening before is a bigger fiesta with boisterous and colourful floats passing through the main towns along with Balthazar, Caspar and Melchior as Canarian kids clamour to give them their present wish list. Head to the likes of Los Cristianos, Puerto de la Cruz, and Santa Cruz de la Tenerife for the liveliest processions.

The religious theme continues later in the month with the Fiestas de San Antonio Abad. These saintly parties are not at all pious however, with locals donning traditional Canarian clothes and playing folk music on instruments including the Canarian tiple (a pygmy guitar reminiscent of a ukulele). There are agricultural fairs too but you'll be advised to hit the north of the island if you want to truly go local.
