Things to do in Tenerife in September 2025
Two worlds collide in Tenerife's Güímar during the first days of September. That of the Guanche, the island's cave-dwelling aborigines, and the one belonging to the Spanish settlers who conquered Tenerife in the 15th century. The Romería de la Bajada de la Virgen del Socorro is the oldest of its type across the Canary Islands, and sees a dramatisation of the virgin's appearance in front of the initially disbelieving eyes of a local mencey (the king of Guanche).
In the former capital of La Laguna, the Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo offer the usual blend of the sacred and secular, including the celebrated Fuegos del Risco fireworks.
Pick up some non-naff souvenirs at the annual Fería Artesanía de Guía de Isora, a craft fair featuring genuine homemade products. Chill to the good vibrations emanating from Los Silos' Festival Internacional Boreal, a free - mainly music - festival with artists from Africa, Europe, and South America. Proving you can't have too much of a good thing, Puerto de la Cruz has created its very own Carnaval de Verano (summer carnival). Meanwhile, FimucitFimucité's International Film Music Festival is the place to listen to classic film scores, which are performed in venues across the island.
