1. Eastbourne, East Sussex, England
As the lively events' calendar proves, the seaside resort of Eastbourne is not just for summer. From romantic inspiration for Valentine's Day to exhibitions and shows, there's something going on here all year round.
A great place to start is at the colourful and contemporary Towner Eastbourne art gallery. From here, a visit to The Art House café for a reviving coffee, or even creative art class, is highly recommended.
History aficionados will want to walk atop the defensive wall of Eastbourne Redoubt, a Napoleonic-era fortress that also played its part in WWI and WWII.
Following this, take a stroll along the town's beloved Blue Plaque Heritage Trail, which highlights where many greats, from Sir Ernest Shackleton to Lewis Carroll, once visited or lived.
Hiking boots at the ready for a trip to Pevensey Levels National Nature Reserve, the white cliffs of Seven Sisters Country Park and the striped lighthouse at Beachy Head.
You can also navigate on to the South Downs Way from Eastbourne, which offers 100 miles of walking and cycling routes.

2. Padstow, Cornwall, England
Pretty Padstow has claimed fame as a seafoodie must, in no small part down to celebrity chef, Rick Stein, who is the proprietor of an award-winning restaurant here and has inspired many other creative chefs to follow suit.
And it's certainly well-placed for such endeavours, located as it is on the banks of the River Camel estuary on Cornwall's north coast. There's seafood for every budget, be it pots of mussels on the beach or lobster bisque served in the finest bone china.
But first, to earn your memorable feast: the 17-mile long Camel Trail is a cycle route along a disused railway that connects Padstow with neighbouring Wadebridge, making it a fabulous day out for all the family.
There's also the South West Coast Path, which handily winds its way through the town making it nice and accessible. Traverse the dramatic clifftop to lighthouse at Trevose Head* before striking out along the headland at Pentire* to truly blow away the cobwebs.
Medieval Tintagel Castle* is another excellent day trip option from Padstow.
Padstow, which is a postcard-perfect mix of colourful houses flowing down to a busy harbour, is also well-stocked with chic indy shops, coffee houses and, of course, the Padstow Brewing Co. where tours and tastings are the order of the day.

When it comes to museums, don't miss the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, which houses an impressive private collection in a striking Italian style villa.
Nearby Christchurch is where you'll find the Red House Museum located in a once-upon-a-time Georgian workhouse that charts the evolution of the area from pre-Ice Age to modern-day. On the other side, Poole Museum shares stories of the town's maritime past - pirates included - from inside a Victorian warehouse.
Did you know that Bournemouth, renowned for its sandy beach, has more than 100 parks and public spaces, including 10 nature reserves such as Stour Valley Nature Reserve and four Sites of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI)?
Add to this its proximity to the New Forest National Park, Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Dorset AONB, and it's no wonder Bournemouth makes a great base for hikers, wildlife and nature lovers.
For the super hardy, there are even hire companies renting out gear for sea kayaking, paddle boarding and more, wetsuit very much included!
